Air Force, Florida State call off home-and-home football series
Air Force and Florida State have called off their home-and-home football series, which had been set for the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
According to academy sports information director Troy Garnhart, Air Force wanted to keep the 2012 game at Florida State but replace the 2011 home game – which was to be the Falcons’ opener on Sept. 3. Air Force coach Troy Calhoun wants to play a squad from the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) in the team’s home opener on parents’ weekend each year.
Garnhart said Florida State could not make that work, however, and instead suggested dropping the entire series. Air Force agreed to that proposal.
With the Florida State games gone, Air Force now is looking to fill two schedule slots in 2012 and one in 2011.
Below are the scheduled nonconference games (not including the annual contests with Army and Navy) for the next several seasons.
