GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Pikes Peak No. 1 Colorado Springs Christian School 48, Buena Vista 47 (OT)
At CSCS: Joanna Guhl scored six of the Lions’ eight overtime points as CSCS escaped with its perfect record intact.
“Joanna hit two 3-pointers there in overtime, and they had a nice chance with about 5 seconds left,” Lions coach Lisa Guhl said. “But our defense held really strong, and we were just able to find a nice balance between our guards and post.”
Joanna Guhl finished with 14 points, while Brianne Vande Griend scored 15.
Buena Vista was 7-8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to force the overtime period.
Sand Creek 51, Pikes Peak No. 5 Fountain-Fort Carson 47
At Sand Creek: It was only fitting that senior Jasmine McIntosh scored the first and last baskets of the night for the Scorpions (10-5) as they upset the Trojans (13-4).
“Tonight we hosted cancer awareness night, and the fact that Jasmine had a great night and got those points for us was pretty huge,” Sand Creek coach Autumn Sereno said. “We also beat the No. 2 team in the league, so this was a pretty big night for us.”
Jasmine McIntosh is a liver cancer survivor, and the team raised more than $1,100 for the Denver Children’s Hospital with a raffle and ticket sales for the event, where they asked fans to wear yellow. McIntosh’s younger sister, Jade, led the Scorpions with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Fountain-Fort Carson, which arrived at the game sporting yellow socks, was led by D’Shara Strange’s 21 points and Alisha Johnson’s 10 points.

At Coronado: The Terrors jumped out to a 39-9 halftime lead as Taylor Torres scored 14 of her 22 points in the opening quarter.
“We started out really fast, and were hitting a lot of our threes,” Palmer coach Dave Shackelford said. “We kind of went into more of a half court mode in the second half, but we had some solid defense.”
Mary Miller added 11 points and Gina Fair scored 10 for the Terrors (13-3).
Coronado (2-15) was led by Juliana Stephenson’s 10 points and Sam Stancato’s eight points.

At Ponderosa: Wes McKenzie scored 39 to lead the Lancers, including the first four points in overtime.
“In my experience, the team that can score the first in overtime is the one that usually comes out with the win,” Liberty coach Jim Masterson said. “We figured these people paid money to see a game. They didn’t want to see a blowout.”
Kody Springsteen added 19 points for Liberty (7-9).
