Plagued by poor shooting and Palmer’s relentless defense, Rampart dropped its first game of the season Thursday night.

The Terrors, playing in front of their largest home crowd of the year, pulled away in the second half to win 66-42.Palmer, which led 28-27 at halftime, held the Pikes Peak 5A-4A No. 1 Rams (15-1, 8-1 5A Metro) to only 15 points in the second half.

“I was really proud of our defense,” said Jim Grantz, who earned his 100th win at Palmer and made a point to hug many of his players when they were pulled from the game in the final minute.

Chris Urbaniak had 19 points and nine rebounds to lead Palmer (11-4, 7-2 5A Metro). Terrell Brown, who credited “team defense” for the win, finished with 12 points. Brandon Deese also had 12 and Jalen Little added 10.

“This is the best crowd we had all year,” said Brown, whose fastbreak dunk late in the third quarter sent the fans into a frenzy. “They came to support us.”
