No. 4 Cheyenne Mountain 57, Harrison 53
At Harrison: Janae VanderPloeg and Connie Char each scored 20 points for the Indians in their win. VanderPloeg also pulled down 19 rebounds and had six blocks.
Charron Johnson had 17 points for Harrison while teammate Nikkita Lester added 15.
With the win, Cheyenne Mountain goes to 7-2 on the season, while Harrison falls to 6-4.
Sierra 48, Mitchell 43
At Mitchell: Sylvia Black had 16 points for the Stallions in their win.
Pine Creek 58, Liberty 41
At Liberty: Haley Roe scored 13 points for the Lancers in their loss.
Buena Vista 35, Manitou Springs 27
At Manitou Springs: Amelia Schofield scored 13 points for the Mustangs in their loss.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Cheyenne Mountain 78, Harrison 43At Harrison: Geoff Pippus and Dustin Sisneros scored 28 and 21 points, respectively, for the Indians in their victory over a Metro League foe.
“I was very pleased with our defense,” said Indians coach Chad Belveal, whose team improved to 5-4 overall (2-0 league).
Wasson 82, Mesa Ridge 76
At Mesa Ridge: The Thunderbirds overcame 20-point nights from Deontay Galbearth (24) and Andre Terry (20) to upend the Grizzlies. Click here to watch a video from the game.
Buena Vista 68, Manitou Springs 65 (OT)
At Manitou Springs: Despite 12 points by Jesse Megyeri and Cole McQueeny and 11 points by Jake Bockhorst and Kyle Maring, the Mustangs fell in overtime.
“We played a pretty good game,” coach Ken Vecchio said. “We had balanced scoring; we had chances and they had chances, but they had the last chance, that’s what it boiled down to.”
Peyton 67, Colorado Springs Christian School 63
At Peyton: The Panthers erased a 19-point deficit to prevail in a Tri-Peaks conference matchup.Mitchell Watkins and Bryant Thomas led the third-quarter rally. Watkins finished with 23 points while Thomas had 16.
“We came out very aggressive in the third and controlled the boards,” coach Allen Thomas said. “Our guys just didn’t quit. CSCS is a very good program, we’ve had some exciting games between us.”
Rampart 99, Fruita Monument 48
At Rampart: Alex Koehler scored 19 points and had five steals and five assists to help lead the Rams to victory.
Lewis-Palmer 59, Woodland Park 34
At Woodland Park: Kyle Engelhardt and Jordan Scott both scored 15 points for the Rangers in their win.
HOCKEY
Pine Creek 4, Liberty 0
At Air Force Academy: Cody Hill had a goal and an assist for the Eagles in their shutout win.
GIRLS’ SWIMMING
Cheyenne Mountain 180, Doherty 125
At Cheyenne Mountain: Stevie Davidson placed first in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle and swam a leg on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay to help the Indians prevail.
Joy Massey placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard butterfly and swam a leg on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay for Doherty.
Colorado Academy 87, St. Mary’s 82
At Harrison: Sisters Brogan and Tenley Barr both qualified for state in their loss to Colorado Academy. Brogan qualified in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:07.28 while Tenley qualified in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:05.49. They also joined forces on the state-qualifiying 400 free relay.
WRESTLING
Palmer 60, Mitchell 16
At Palmer: The Terrors won all but two bouts against the Marauders, who defeated Palmer the previous two years. Palmer is 4-4 in duals this season.
