Fire destroys Fountain home; woman treated for smoke inhalation
A woman was treated for smoke inhalation and she and her family were displaced after a fire destroyed their rental home in Fountain on Friday night.
Firefighters found the woman inside the front door when they arrived, and flames were coming out of three windows of the house at 103 S. Race St., according to a Fountain Fire Department news release. The woman, Caja Grey, apparently was trying to find her three cats, all of which are missing.
She was treated at a hospital for minor smoke inhalation and released. Grey’s boyfriend Kieth Dantassel and the couple’s two children, ages 5 and 10, were not home at the time.
It took more than five hours to extinguish the blaze and the 110-year-old house is a total loss, Fountain Fire Chief Darin Anstine said in a release. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
The family did not have renters insurance. The Fountain Fire Department, at 212 N. Santa Fe Ave., is taking donations of any kind for the family.
