The junior raced to wins in the 200- and 500-yard free and anchored the winning 400 free relay to lead the Indians to a 100-point win at the Cheyenne Mountain Invitational. But it was the overall team effort that Ashley Forsyth treasured most.

“The girls that got seconds and thirds really helped us pull ahead,” she said. “So I’m pretty happy with our team. I think the overall team is important over an individual win.”

Forsyth, the defending 4A state champion in the 500 free, already has qualified for state in the 200 and 500 free and helped the Indians qualify in the 200 and 400 free relays.

How long can you stay underwater?Probably like a minute.

Any superstitions, like a favorite swimsuit?(Wearing) an Aquablade (swimsuit). I like the feel of it when I’m racing because it’s a little thinner.

Athlete you look up to?Ian Thorpe. He’s a freestyler (also). I like watching his stroke and all that.

Where are you looking to swim in college?Purdue and IU (Indiana University). I have family there, and I was just looking at the schools and they have really strong teams.

Have you thought about your possible major?Dietetics. I’m allergic to wheat. So I want to help people like me.

Is it hard not to binge on holiday food?Yeah, it’s a little harder because you have to watch what you eat before a meet. If you eat too many sweets, it’ll just weigh you down.

What’s your favorite school subject?History. I just enjoy the class in general and it’s just very fascinating to me.
