Palmer dominates Rampart to remain undefeated

The Palmer girls’ basketball team scored 17 straight points to open the game and never looked back in a dominating 72-30 home victory over 5A Metro League foe Rampart on Thursday night.

“I couldn’t be happier,” Palmer coach Dave Shackelford said. “If we play like we did (Thursday), it’s so fun to watch.”

Gina Fair’s 3-pointer 10 seconds into the game put the Terrors (7-0) ahead for good. The Rams (3-2) didn’t score until Katie Londo’s basket with 3:49 left in the first quarter.

Palmer capitalized on 18 steals. Mary Miller led the Terrors with five steals.

“We weren’t ready for their pressure,” Rams coach Patrick Simpson said. “They brought pressure we haven’t seen before.”

The best showing for the Rams was a six-point run, split between the third and fourth quarters. Katya Saenz was quick to silence that run with a 3-pointer with 6:48 remaining in the fourth. The Terrors went on to score 21 more points in the final quarter.

Saenz led all scorers with 15 points, while Fair finished with 14. Kim Beard added 14 points and 15 rebounds.

Katie Ruff led Rampart with nine points.
