BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Harrison 69, Douglas County 60
At the Harrison Tournament: Chris Chandler scored 21 and Xavier Ford had 20 to lead the Panthers, who scored 43 in the second half. Chase Dolan led Douglas County with 17.
Coronado 58, Palmer Ridge 46
At the Harrison Tournament: The Cougars outscored the Bears 19-8 in the fourth quarter to keep control after Palmer Ridge was up 32-27 at halftime. Coronado’s Ben Foley led all scorers with 22 points, while junior Collin Babcock led Palmer Ridge with 14.
Lewis-Palmer 51, East Islip (N.Y.) 47At the KSA Holiday Tournament, Orlando: The Rangers’ defense stepped up in the fourth quarter as Lewis-Palmer held off the tying basket to earn a spot in this morning’s semifinal game.
“We had jumped to an early lead, but they hit a couple threes and almost tied it up late,” Rangers coach Russ McKinstry said. “We had a few players in foul trouble, but overall it was the defense that kept us ahead.”
Kyle Engelhardt’s 16 points led Lewis-Palmer, while Jordan Ververs added 14.
Pine Creek 57, Cheyenne Mountain 56At Pine Creek: The Eagles scored 18 points in the fourth quarter, including the game-winning free throw by senior Tim Perry.
“Tim hit that free throw with 13 seconds left and that was the first lead we had,” Pine Creek coach Joel Babbitt said. “Our defense worked hard, especially Landon Rogers on their leading scorer.”
Geoff Pippus led the Indians with 23 points, while Rogers led the Eagles with 11.
James Irwin 62, Lamar 55
At James Irwin: James Irwin had four players scoring in double digits, including Chris Bowen with 14. Daniel Cameron and Steven Rhode both scored 12, while Justin Massey added 11 points to his 18 rebounds.
Mitchell 59, Pueblo South 50
At the Harrison Tournament: The Marauders outscored the Colts 16-9 in the final quarter to sustain their halftime lead. Senior Zach Simms scored 16, while MonDarrius Benson and David Snipes each had 12.
Calhan 74, Fowler 49
At Fowler Invitational: Josh Woolsey scored 21 and Ethan Mease finished with 14 points to lead Calhan past Fowler and into today’s tournament championship against Rocky Ford. Fowler was led by Marcus Trujillo’s 16 points, and will play Custer County for third place.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
CSS 42, South Park 38 At South Park: The Kodiaks trailed until the final 3 minutes of the game when Karly Lindroth-Yates hit a 3-point shot to tie it at 38.
“Karly put us in it, and then Andie (Anderson) had an offensive rebound that put us up by two,” CSS coach Vicki Vaughan said. “Marissa (Quintero)’s shot gave us a four-point lead and we just hung on.”
Lindroth-Yates had a game-high 21 points.
Pueblo East 54, Doherty 42
At Doherty: Talia Cunningham scored 15 and Kelsey English had 12 points, eight rebounds and four steals in the Spartans loss. Doherty shot just 36 percent from the field, and the game included 21 turnovers.
Limon 57, Pikes Peak Christian 36
At Pikes Peak Christian: The Badgers outscored the Eagles 23-5 in the second quarter to take a commanding lead. Brianna Euken led Pikes Peak Christian with 16 points, and Ashley Stevens had 11 points and nine boards.
Air Academy 50, Grandview 41
At Heritage Tournament: Miranda Beal led all scorers with 11 points, and Air Academy outscored Grandview 26-12 in the second half. Sophomore Kate Louthan scored eight for the Kadets, and classmate Sarah Schweiss added six.
Fountain-Fort Carson 65, Ralston Valley 36
At Ralston Valley: D’Shara Strange and Alisha Johnson each scored 12 points as 10 different Trojans put points on the board. D’Shara Strange led the team in each category with nine rebounds, nine assists and five steals.
Vista Ridge 49, Englewood 31
At Vista Ridge: Kailey Lucky led Vista Ridge with 13 points as the Wolves outscored Englewood 18-2 in the third quarter. Sierra Davis scored eight, while Diva Chavez, Jessica Villars, and Bryana Young each added six.
GIRLS’ SWIMMING
Vista Ridge 88, Manitou Springs 78
Vista Ridge’s Vanna Showalter won the 50-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle, and took part in the winning 200-yard freestule relay and the 200-yard medley relay to lead the Wolves. Storrie Cramer’s wins in the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard butterfly led the Mustangs.
WRESTLINGMesa Ridge 43, Sand Creek 34At Sand Creek: Mesa Ridge’s Dashawn Williams (189 pounds) and Phillip Rhodes (171) each pinned their opponents in less than a minute, while Sand Creek’s Zach Roberson pinned his opponent at 145 pounds in 45 seconds.
