BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Colorado Springs School 87, Front Range Christian 39
At CSS: DeLovell Earls scored a school-record 40 points to lead his team to the Kodiac Classic championship. Earls went 18-for-25 from the field, including 3-for-5 from 3-point range. He also had 10 rebounds and three assists. Chris Dailey added 16 points and Ian Cullity 14.
Liberty 43, Steamboat Springs 39
At Steamboat Springs tournament: In a battle for third place, Wes McKenzie led all scorers with 22 points, leading the Lancers to victory.
Palmer 52, Highlands Ranch 45
At Palmer: Terrell Brown had 27 points as the Terrors fought off a strong Highlands Ranch squad.
“I thought it was a really good team win,” said Palmer coach Jim Grantz. “We got contributions from everyone we played.” He said he was also impressed with the strong defensive play of Chris Urbaniak.
James Irwin 44, Fountain Valley 36
At Fountain Valley: Chris Bowen scored 16 points for the Jaguars and added four rebounds. Steven Rhode had seven rebounds and 12 blocks for the winners, while also tossing in six points.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Front Range Christian 53, Colorado Springs School 40
At Colorado Springs School: Monica Finger had 15 points while teammate Karly Lindroth-Yates added 11 as the Kodiaks fell at home.
Vista Ridge 41, Alamosa 30
At Vista Ridge: Kailey Lucky had 14 points for the victors.
John F. Kennedy 32, Wasson 26
At John F. Kennedy: Quincy Jackson scored 12 points in the Thunderbirds’ defeat.
James Irwin 40, Fountain Valley 28
At James Irwin: Kasey Jones had 23 points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals for the Jaguars while Kelsey Jones added 12 points, five rebounds, five assists and three blocks for the victors. Alex Ochoa had 23 points for Fountain Valley.
Pueblo County 54, Coronado 41
At Pueblo County Tournament: Sam Stancato scored 10 points for the Cougars in their effort. Teammate Juliana Stephenson led her team in rebounds (six), while tossing in eight points. Katie Hofer also scored eight points while pulling down four rebounds.
Coronado 55, Harrison 54
At Pueblo County Tournament: Jess McCallum and Emily Smith helped their squad squeak out a win, scoring 14 points apiece while Smith added eight rebounds. Nicole Herrera had 13 points for Harrison in the effort.
Harrison 59, Bear Creek 40
At Pueblo County Tournament: Point guard Nicole Herrera had 10 assists and 10 steals to help lead the Panthers to a third-place finish. Charron Johnson had 15 points and 15 rebounds while Briana Tefft had 12 points and 12 rebounds.
“I thought it was a really great team effort,” said coach Tamie Hollon. “We had a lot of girls step up today.”
Lewis Palmer 52, Widefield 50 (2OT)
At Widefield: Majana McCollum scored 14 points for Widefield in its narrow defeat.
WRESTLING
Air Academy takes fourth place at Grandview Invitational
Air Academy’s Brunner Hill improved his record to 10-0 on the season with a strong performance at the Grandview duels at 145 lbs. Teammate Brian Gelston also had a strong performance and is now 9-0 on the season at 215 lbs.
“They wrestled extremely well,” said coach Blue Anderson of his team. “They came out very aggressive. They wrestled the best they have in the last couple years.”
Pine Creek goes 5-2 at Kansas Dual Tournament
Results: Hoxie 38, Pine Creek 28; Pine Creek 50, Wray 24; Garden City 45, Pine Creek 33; Pine Creek 35, Concordia 32; Pine Creek 37, Goodland 28; Pine Creek 33, Hutchinson 31; Pine Creek 40, Chapparel, Colo. 27
Geordan Martinez, Josh Martinez and Alex Smith all went 7-0 at the tournament at 103, 112, and 119 lbs. respectively while Jerry McGinty, Greg Luebe and Jess Roberson all finished 6-1 on the day.
