BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Platte Valley 47, Colorado Springs Christian School 46

At the Northeastern Junior College high school tournament: The Broncos scored 18 points in the fourth quarter to beat the Lions, who led 24-17 at halftime. CSCS’ Nate Engesser led all scorers with 16 points and four steals.

Cheyenne Mountain 74, Canon City 58

At Cheyenne Mountain: Senior Geoff Pippus netted seven 3-pointers and scored 40 as the Indians were good for 31 points in the first quarter alone.

“Geoff shot the ball incredibly well tonight and was very aggressive at both ends of the floor,” Indians coach Chad Belveal said. “We played very well and outrebounded them, even though Canon City has three guys that are 6-foot-6 or above.”

Rock Canyon 70, Liberty 68 (OT)

At the Steamboat Springs tournament: Wes McKenzie hit two free throws with eight seconds remaining to send the game to overtime, but the Lancers were outscored 4-2 in overtime of the semi-final game. McKenzie led Liberty with 25 points.

Calhan 67, Hugo 42

At Calhan: Four players scored in the double digits to lead a Calhan team that led by 11 after the first quarter.

“We are just really well balanced and they played really unselfishly tonight,” Calhan coach Rick Carothers said.

 

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Pueblo Centennial 35, Canon City 34

At the Widefield Tournament: The game was tied at halftime, but Kelli French scored eight of her 15 points in the second half to lead Pueblo Centennial. Leah Petty scored 11 for Canon City, while Ashley Brown added nine.

Sierra 42, Mitchell 34

At Sierra: Selina Barnes scored 17 points for the Stallions, who racked up 20 points in the fourth quarter. Sylvia Black and Paige Dias both had nine rebounds, while Jenn Miner added three steals for Sierra. The Marauders were led by Christel Enriquez’s 10 points and Alyssa Penzes’ eight points.

Liberty 43, Golden 37

At Golden: Kendra Smith’s 12 points, 13 rebounds and five steals led the Lancers, who also saw results from Danielle Alvernaz (10 points, four assists).

Florence 38, Cheyenne Mountain 35

At Florence: Buoyed by 14 fourth-quarter points, Florence rallied in the second half. Britney Warren (eight points) and Mary Webb (six points) led the Huskies.
