Freshman guard/forward Mike Fitzgerald came into Tuesday night’s game against Prairie View A&M having missed all four of the 3-pointers he’d attempted in his two appearances this season.

And after entering the game in the second half he airballed his first 3 and missed his next attempt.

But Fitzgerald got another look from beyond the arc and hit it. Two possessions later he hit another. And two possessions after that another. Then, with less than a minute to play, Fitzgerald drained his fourth in a row.

“He can really shoot it,” Air Force coach Jeff Reynolds said.

McLain protects ballSenior Mike McLain matched a career high with seven points. But he was happier with the zero in his stat line.

McLain entered the game with a team-high 20 turnovers. But he made none against the Panthers and contributed four assists.

“I’m just trying to be solid,” McLain said.

Still missing men in the middleAir Force was without its starting and backup centers for the fourth straight game. Sophomore Sammy Schafer (concussion) and freshman Taylor Broekhuis (strained lower-leg muscle) both did not dress.

Tom Fow, who missed the last two games with a concussion, returned to action. Fow was the second sub into the game and scored five points in 19 minutes.
