CSCS dispatches another foe with shutout victory in soccer

Alex Wood has had to find some creative ways to keep himself focused lately.

The senior goalkeeper from Colorado Springs Christian School made three saves Tuesday in a 6-0 second-round playoff win over Legend, three days after a 10-0 triumph over Ridgeview.

“On warm days, it’s not too bad being back there by myself,” he said. “But on cold nights like this one, I try to run around a little back there and keep my arms moving.”

The Lions, who have outscored opponents 87-7, were up 3-0 at halftime. Center back Chad Edmundson scored twice while junior Zac Egeler put CSCS (16-0-1) on the board less than 3 minutes into the first half.

“I really liked the intensity that we had and the way everyone was getting involved,” coach Tim Egeler said. “The fact that our defensive players are getting up to score is just more proof that we hardly let them up to breathe.”

The second half brought no relief for the Titans (8-7-1) as A.J. Seifert, Daniel Broas and Gian Prabhudas tacked on goals.

The top-seeded Lions will play host to No. 9 Fountain Valley on Thursday in a 3A state quarterfinal. CSCS defeated the Danes 5-2 in the season finale, but Egeler maintains his team has something to prove.

“We won the game, but the guys were definitely a little disappointed that we allowed two goals there at the end,” Egeler said. “I think this time, just like every game, they’ll be going for the shutout.”
