DENVER • Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez went 10-for-17 with one RBI and five runs scored in the playoffs. His 10 hits lead the majors, and they’re tied for the most by a Rockies player in NL Division Series history — Dante Bichette had 10 hits in the 1995 NLDS against Atlanta.

“I’m more focused at the plate — that’s the key,” said Gonzalez, who hit .202 before the All-Star break and .320 following the break. “What has been helping me is just don’t try to do too much, just make contact and look for a good pitch and think about the big part of the field, just drive the ball up the middle.”

Barmes in rut

Clint Barmes was speechless, trying to explain how he went 0-for-14 in the NLDS. He hit .245 with 76 RBIs during the regular season.

“I can sit here and come up with a bunch of excuses for why I didn’t swing the bat the way I feel like I’m capable,” he said. “I didn’t get it done. I had opportunities to help the team, and I fell short pretty much every time I came to the plate.”
