Hope you like your pumpkins frozen or soggy, because those seem to be the two options October weather is prepared to offer, possibly starting as soon as tonight.

There is strong potential in the Pikes Peak region and across most of the state for temperatures to fall below the average high of 63.4 degrees and low of 34.3 degrees. There is also a good chance we’ll see more than the average 0.86 inches of precipitation, meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Pueblo predict.

NWS forecasters may issue an advisory for freezing temperatures overnight tonight, they said Wednesday.

Hmmm. Sounds like the  opposite of the final days of September and nowhere near the record-setting  87-degree day on Oct. 3, 1935.

But no need to panic. It is highly unlikely tonight will get as cold as 6 degrees below zero, the record low for the month set Oct. 29, 1917.

The record snowfall for the month was 13.9 inches that fell Oct. 25, 1997. It rained a record 1.63 inches on Oct. 14, 1945.
