Federal energy funding flowing Colorado’s way
Gov. Bill Ritter and Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced today that Colorado was getting nearly $35 million in federal recovery act funding for energy efficiency and alternative energy projects.
The money will go into a fund managed by the governor’s energy office to fund wind- and solar-energy projects and home weatherization programs. About $10 million of the total will be disbursed as block grants to local governments, Ritter said.
Chu noted that the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act money for energy efficiency projects was being dispensed to the states in proportion to their population. But he noted several research-and-development grants that had come Colorado’s way because the state was an energy research center, and he praised Ritter’s work to make the state a national leader in the development of a “new energy economy.”
