Palmer Ridge goalkeeper blanks Cheyenne Mountain

Once the excess water had been pushed from the field hockey turf, Palmer Ridge had little trouble overcoming its lone remaining obstacle — Cheyenne Mountain.

Take a look at photos from the game.

Senior Alli Quintana didn’t allow a goal as the Bears defeated the Indians 4-0 on Wednesday at waterlogged Cheyenne Mountain.

“We came in with the expectation that we should do well in this game,” Bears coach Paul Lewis said.

Cheyenne Mountain struggled to muster any kind of offensive momentum in the first half while Palmer Ridge capitalized on its opportunities with three goals.

“Had we been doing some of the things that we should have been, we would have been able to shut it down,” Indians coach Sean Wybrant said. “But it took us awhile to get into our game mode.”

Cheyenne Mountain did get its chances in the second half, but Quintana denied each one.

“Alli Quintana is an excellent athlete,” Lewis said. “She’s got speed, she’s got power — all the things you want in a goalkeeper. When she’s working hard, she’s solid so I think she’s as good as any keeper out there.”

Nicole Alverez led the Bears with two goals.
