Jason Giambi made his unofficial Sky Sox debut Tuesday, partly because Eric Young Jr. and Matt Murton were promoted to the Colorado Rockies.

The game between Colorado Springs and Reno was canceled after nine outs — the Aces led 2-1 — and a rain delay that approached 3 hours. The game will not be made up.

Rockies’ outfielder Dexter Fowler went on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised right knee and pitcher Adam Eaton was optioned to Colorado Springs. Eaton wasn’t at Security Service Field on Tuesday but has 72 hours to report.Young played center field for the Rockies and got his first major league hit.

“He was real excited when I told him he was going up,” Sky Sox manager Stu Cole said. “You work hard all spring training, all season, your whole career for that chance. It’s exciting for him.”

Giambi, whose last game was July 19 with Oakland, was activated on his second day with the Sky Sox and had his first plate appearance, which resulted in a five-pitch walk with one swing and a miss.

“Five pitches, I’m locked in,” Giambi said with a smile. “I tried to jump ship that first swing.”

Cole said Giambi was “ready to go” even though speculation was he wouldn’t play until today.

“It was good for him to get in there and knock off the cobwebs,” Cole said. “The biggest thing is to get his timing down but it probably won’t take long for a guy like him.”
