Capps has ‘best car’ at Bandimere Speedway

MORRISON – Before Ron Capps took on Ashley Force Hood for the Funny Car championship on Sunday at the Mopar Mile-High National Hot Rod Association Nationals, Jack Beckman, Capps’ teammate said, “Ron looks like he has the best car today.”

He was right.

Capps, who beat Beckman in the semifinals, defeated Force Hood for his fifth win of the year at the quarter-of-a-mile long Bandimere Speedway in Morrison. The race was the 13th of the 24-race NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series.

“That’s just Jack talking,” Capps, who moved into a tie for first in the points standings with Force Hood with 955, said about Beckman’s remark. “They had a pretty good car over there, too.”

While Capps won the Funny Car, Eddie Krawiec took the Pro Stock Motorcycle. Krawiec, first in points (729), continued his dominance as he qualified for his sixth straight final in just the eighth race of the motorcycle season.“There’s not many riders that can say that they’ve gone to six straight finals,” said Krawiec, who won his third title.

In Top Fuel, Antron Brown won for the third time this season, beating out Doug Kalitta. Brown remained in first place in the standings with 1,048.

Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson made the Mile-High final for the third straight year, beating Jason Line and coming away with his second win.

The Series’ next stop is the 22nd annual Northwest Nationals July 17-19 at Seattle.
