Franklin Morales didn’t quite match the zeroes of the three starters who came before him, but he was easily good enough to help the Sky Sox win their fourth straight game Saturday night.

Portland scored the first earned run against Colorado Springs in 34 innings and later added two more, but those tallies fell far short in an 8-3 Sky Sox in front of 5,839 at Security Service Field.

The game included a 106-minute rain delay.

Morales had to work around baserunners in four of his six innings, but he coaxed a double play in the second, stranded a leadoff double in the fifth and closed his start by escaping a second-and-third-with-nobody-out situation in the sixth.

Morales gave up one run as he struck out four, walked one and surrendered seven hits. The 23-year-old lefty is now 2-0 with a 1.47 ERA in three starts since being knocked around for eight runs in a major-league rehab assignment against Las Vegas on June 11.

Morales was the first Sky Sox starter to surrender a run since Tuesday, as Adam Eaton, Brandon Hynick and Jason Hirsh posted consecutive scoreless outings in Sacramento.

Those kind of starts just haven’t been there for Portland’s Will Inman, considered a top prospect in the San Diego system according to Baseball America, who continued with his recent struggles.

He walked the first two batters of the game – a big mistake considering the hitters were speedsters Eric Young Jr. and Mike McCoy, who both stole bases (Young’s 44th, McCoy’s 25th) and eventually scored. When he finally stopped walking people, he couldn’t stop giving up hits, as the Sky Sox twice strung together three straight base knocks in scoring rallies.

Inman line – eight runs on six hits, six walks and no strikeouts in just four innings – was representative of his Triple-A experience thus far. Called up after eight solid Double-A starts, heis winless in eight starts with the Beavers and his ERA has ballooned to 7.27.

The top four hitters in the Sky Sox order – Young, McCoy, Matt Miller and Matt Murton – combined to go 9-for-15 with six runs seven RBIs. They reached safely in 13-of-19 plate appearances.
