Manitou settles on fee for Barr Trail parking
Free parking at the Barr Trail lot will soon be a distant memory.
On Friday, the Manitou Springs City Council unanimously voted to charge $5 per car for parking at the trailhead.
The council is expected to give the measure final approval Tuesday.
The new fees could go into effect by the end of June. A cash-only, self-pay box will be installed at the lot, said City Planner Michelle Anthony.
The parking fees will be used for paving and striping the lot, which will increase lot capacity and prevent gravel and dirt from washing onto nearby Hydro Street, she said.
