A freak injury Sunday to Rockies reliever Matt Daley caused a ripple effect that will leave the Sky Sox without two of their top bullpen arms for at least three days.

Daley was placed on the 15-day disabled list after a foot injury that occurred when he stepped on a bat that the umpire had kicked inadvertently into his path as Daley raced behind home plate to back up a play.

To replace Daley, the Rockies called up right-hander Joel Peralta, a big-league veteran, who was 4-0 with a 3.60 ERA in 17 appearances for the Sky Sox.

To add Peralta to the 40-man roster, the Rockies designated Sky Sox closer Steven Register for assignment. Teams have 72 hours to claim Register, during which time he will be unavailable for Colorado Springs.

Ryan Mattheus was added to the Sky Sox roster from Double-A Tulsa to fill Peralta’s spot.
