Rockies beat Phillies 10-3 in home opener
DENVER – The Colorado Rockies roughed up Phillies ace Cole Hamels and got seven strong innings from starter Jason Marquis in an easy 10-3 victory against Philadelphia in their home opener.
The Rockies fell behind 1-0 early but got five runs in the third inning at Coors Field. Marquis got the scoring going with a run-scoring single after he fouled off two sacrifice-bunt attempts. Later in the inning, Garrett Atkins hit a two-run home run to left field.
The Rockies got two more runs against Hamels in the fourth, and he was pulled after 3 2/3 innings. Colorado got seven runs and 11 hits off Hamels.
Marquis, making his Rockies debut, pitched very well. He allowed five hits and two runs in seven innings before giving way to the bullpen. The Rockies are 3-1 this season.
