Service offers seedlings for sale

The Colorado State Forest Service has started offering tree-seedling sales for its 2009 conservation program. The program sells seedlings at nominal cost, encouraging landowners to plant forests and natural windbreaks.

In order to participate, you must own 2 or more acres of land and not resell the seedlings or use them commercially. The Colorado State Forest Service encourages landowners to apply early, as supplies are limited for certain varieties.

The general nursery Web site is csfs.colostate.edu/pages/seedling -tree-nursery.html, where you can get information on how to plant trees and shrubs in Colorado.

The local district office is in Woodland Park, 687-2921. You can get the PDF order form at its home page, csfs.colostate.edu/pages/woodlandparkdist.html. Click on “Woodland Park Seedling Tree Program.”

There’s also information on “survival accessories” such as tree guards and weed barriers. The local district is offering two tree-planting workshops:

• 7-9 p.m., Jan. 22, Ute Pass Cultural Center, 210 E. Midland Ave., Woodland Park.• 9-11 a.m., Jan. 24, Black Forest Community Center, 12530 Black Forest Road.
