HE SAID, SHE SAID: Fantasy Football Week 15

Everyone knows you should use studs such as peyton manning, LaDainian Tomlinson and Terrell Owens every week, so here are projections for other players who might be off your radar. Comment on The Gazette’s fantasy sports blog during the week at gazettefantasysports.freedomblogging.com and check out gazettedev.gazette.com for weekly video blogs.

MATT WILEY’S PICKS

Quarterback Eli Manning, Giants

Manning seems to play his best when he faces the Cowboys. He has five straight games with at least two touchdown passes against Dallas. He also has 16 career touchdowns against the Cowboys, more than any other team. With a chance to stifle Dallas’ playoff chances, expect Eli to shine on Sunday night.

Running back Fred Taylor, Jaguars

It doesn’t look like Taylor is going to get to 1,000 yards rushing this season, but keep in mind he is still averaging 4.6 yards per carry this year. He should excel against the Packers as has every running back lately. Green Bay has allowed 348 yards rushing and eight touchdowns over the past three weeks.

Receiver Isaac Bruce, 49ers

After a lull in the middle of the season, Bruce appears to be back on track. He has at least five receptions in each of the past three games and he has 262 yards for two touchdowns over that span.

Sleeper Sammy Morris, RB, Patriots

Morris has over 10 carries in each of the past two games and he has scored a touchdown in each game. He has six touchdowns this season on 103 carries. That is one score about every 17 carries, which puts him up with the league leaders in that category.

Avoid Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Steelers

Roethlisberger has four touchdown passes in his past seven games and has five interceptions over that span. Throw in that he is facing the Ravens and he is a terrible play this week. He has 13 touchdowns in seven career games against Baltimore.

ANGIE DISALVO’S PICKS

Quarterback Trent Edwards, Bills

Although the second-year gunslinger has only two touchdown passes, he’s accurate (39 of 55) and has racked up a good amount of yards (454 yards) while making few mistakes (zero interceptions) so far this season.

Running back Julius Jones, Seahawks

With 127 yards and a touchdown last week against San Francisco, Jones, the starter thanks to a knee injury to Maurice Morris, was the lone shining star for Seattle. Plus, the Seahawks face another terrible team this weekend in St. Louis (154 rushing yards per game).

Receiver Anthony Gonzalez, Colts

The second-year player has become Indy’s No. 2 receiver – behind Reggie Wayne – with 14 catches for 185 yards, most of which came in Week 2 against Minnesota. Peyton Manning got his groove back in the second half against the Vikings and with teams keying on Wayne, Gonzalez – not Marvin Harrison – will benefit.

Sleeper Isaac Bruce, 49ers

The former Ram’s performance last week against Seattle (four catches for 153 yards) might have been a fluke. But quarterback J.T. O’Sullivan seems to be coming along and Detroit is 25th (240 yards per game) in pass defense.

Avoid Larry Johnson, Chiefs

The former fantasy star is struggling with mediocrity this season – 34 carries for 96 yards, zero touchdowns and a fumble. Until he shows some consistency, show him the bench.

When selecting cheeses, there’s no need to reach for pricey artisanal stuff. But don’t go bargain basement, either. Most mid-range goat and cheddar cheeses sold at well-stocked grocers are fine. Photo by (AP Photo/Larry Crowe)
