Colorado Springs police arrested a 24-year-old on Tuesday after a shooting at a Family Dollar Store left a man with two gunshot wounds.

Billy Ray Rodriguez was arrested Tuesday at the Criminal Justice Center on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder.

Hector Contreras, 25, was walking in the area of the Family Dollar, 2325 E. Boulder St., when he was shot twice in the left leg with a .45 caliber handgun about 11 a.m. Tuesday, police said. He was transported to Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Police said Contreras was in stable condition.

A short time later, two officers were dispatched to 629 E. Las Vegas St. to investigate a report of a suspicious vehicle. An investigation determined the vehicle’s owner was possibly involved in the shooting, police said.

The suspect was contacted, but officers couldn’t find valid identification. Detective Troy Ward and the officers determined the suspect’s identity through fingerprints.

Police didn’t give a reason for the shooting.
