NFL FANTASY: He Said, She Said
HE SAID: MATT WILEY’S PICKSQuarterbackMatt Hasselbeck, SeahawksArizona is likely to Seattle’s terrible defense and Hasselbeck, who is returning from injury, will likely have to pass a lot to keep the Seahawks competitive. Deion Branch is scheduled to practice today and Seattle might actually have a decent offense this week.
Running backShaun Alexander, RedskinsWith Clinton Portis saying he could barely bend his knee on Tuesday, the chances of him playing against Dallas are marginal. LaDell Betts could return for Washington, but it appears that Alexander could be the main runner and a decent fantasy play is your team is suffering from injuries.
ReceiverMark Bradley, ChiefsThe former Bear has two touchdowns in the past three games and 18 catches for 188 yards over that span. The Chiefs’ offense does have offensive players defenses have to worry about in Dwayne Bowe and Tony Gonzalez, and Bradley is making the most of the single-coverage.
SleeperMalcom Floyd, WR, ChargersAfter not catching a pass in the first five weeks of the season, Floyd has 237 yards receiving and three touchdowns. The Steelers have been vulnerable against taler receivers, so the 6-5 Floyd could have a big day.
AvoidCalvin Johnson, DetroitThe Panthers have allowed an NFC-low seven touchdowns receiving and the Lions quarterback situation appears to be a mess. Johnson has put up great statistics to this point, but I don’t trust him this weekend.
SHE SAID: ANGIE DISALVO’S PICKSQuarterbackTyler Thigpen, ChiefsThigpen has steadily improved since taking over the starting job, including tossing three touchdowns against San Diego (32nd in pass defense) last week. The Saints are 27th in pass defense, so Thigpen should do well again.
Running backJerious Norwood, FalconsAlthough he’s only the No. 2 running back for Atlanta, Norwood is still a great option this week against the Broncos, who still haven’t shown they can stop the run. Plus, if you get return yards per player, Norwood is a must-start.
ReceiverDonald Driver, PackersDriver has only two less catches (43 to 41) and one less touchdown (four to three) than his younger compatriot Greg Jennings. Even if you don’t get points per catch, Driver is a good start this week against Chicago, which is 30th in pass defense.
SleeperBenJarvus Green-Ellis, PatriotsWatch to see if the rookie gets the start over Sammy Morris, if Morris is healthy enough to play Thursday. But Green-Ellis has shown he’s legit by scoring the past four games and lighting up a decent Buffalo defense (15th against the run) for 105 yards last week.
AvoidRyan Grant, PackersGrant ran well (75 yards and a touchdown) against the third-ranked Vikings run defense last week. But the Bears (No. 4 against the run) have been eating up good running backs all season, including holding Tennessee’s Chris Johnson and LenDale White to a combined 20 yards last week.
