Fantasy Football: He Said, She Said

Everyone knows you should use studs such as Peyton Manning, LaDainian Tomlinson and Terrell Owens every week, so here are projections For other players who might be off your radar. Comment on The Gazette’s Fantasy Sports blog during The week at gazettefantasysports.freedomblogging.com and check out gazettedev.gazette.com For weekly Video blogs.

MATT WILEY’S PICKSQuarterback Brady Quinn, BrownsQuinn will be making his first start after a short week of practice, but he is facing a Denver defense that is allowing 243.3 yards per game. If receiver Braylon Edwards decides to catch the ball, Quinn should put up big numbers.

Running Back Ryan Torain, BroncosWith Michael Pittman and Andre Hall on injured reserve, Torain should become an instant pickup. If you were a fantasy owner who stashed away Torain at the start of the year, it should pay off for you now. The Browns are allowing 148 yards per game.

Receiver Nate Washington, SteelersThe third receiver for the Steelers has caught three touchdowns in the past four games and he is averaging 68.8 yards per game over that span. The Steelers should be able to move the ball up and down the field against the Colts.

Sleeper Shaun Hill, QB, 49ersIf you are in need of a quarterback, Hill might be a good option because he is playing for the pass-first 49ers. The Cardinals have allowed 16 TD passes (most in the NFL) and Monday night’s game could be the highest-scoring game of the week.

Avoid Matt Forte, RB, BearsTennessee has a stingy defense that could hold Forte in check anyway, but with Chicago losing quarterback Kyle Orton, the Titans should have even more success. Anyone who is going to play the Bears is likely to make Rex Grossman prove he can beat them.Matt Wiley, the Gazette

ANGIE DISALVO’S PICKS

Quarterback Gus Frerotte, VikingsThe former backup has thrown for five touchdowns the past two games even as Adrian Peterson has run for more than 100 yards in each contest. So Frerotte is a good option if you don’t get penalized for interceptions (he also has five picks in that time period).

Running Back Jamal Lewis, Browns The Broncos (26th in run defense) lost another key defender in linebacker D.J. Williams. And with the shortened week and all the focus on new Browns starting quarterback Brady Quinn, Lewis should quietly have a good night.

Receiver Dwayne Bowe, Chiefs I said to avoid Bowe last week and he mostly struggled (two catches for 29 yards and a touchdown) against a good Tampa Bay defense. This week he faces the league’s worst pass defense in San Diego, so he gets my vote of confidence.

Sleeper Matt Jones, WR, Jaguars Detroit is 29th in pass defense, and Jones leads Jacksonville in receptions and yards (he also has caught two touchdown passes). The only thing that could slow him is a suspension.

Avoid Desean Jackson, WR, EaglesThe rookie was a hot choice early in the season (despite the touchdown he literally threw away), but Philadelphia is facing the No. 2 pass defense in the Giants this week. Plus, Jackson had a combined five catches for 92 yards the past two weeks against mediocre defenses in Atlanta (16th) and Seattle (31st).
