It can be nerve-wracking playing on one of the nation’s biggest college stages. But two former Lewis-Palmer volleyball stars seem to be having no problem.Kellie Sciacca, a sophomore starting middle blocker at Notre Dame, and Ariana Filho, a freshman reserve middle blocker at Minnesota, faced off earlier this year in Minneapolis.”She (Filho) actually went into the match towards the end and that was exciting to watch even though they beat us in three games,” Sciacca said. “We talked briefly afterwards, just asking how each other was doing; it was a very quick interaction.”Filho, a 2008 graduate, has seen action in 11 matches this season, including one against the Irish. As of Oct. 17, the 6-foot-2 middle-blocker is tied for fourth on the team in blocks (40).Sciacca, a 2007 graduate, earned the Big East Player of the Week for Sept. 29 after leading the Irish to wins over South Florida and Georgetown. She leads the team in blocks (60) and is third in kills for the 10-9 Irish. She was a league freshman of the week last year.”I was really happy about that,” she said. “I feel like the season is going well for me personally. I am just doing what I can and playing volleyball like I do everyday trying to help this team win.”

Trevor Bobb, Doherty 2007Bobb is in his sophomore year playing linebacker for Western State. He recently recorded five tackles and an interception against the Colorado School of Mines.

Candice Buckles, Fountain-Fort Carson 2008The Grand Canyon University freshman scored the game-winner in a 1-0 women’s soccer victory Oct. 9 over Notre Dame de Namur.

Breanna Van Der Most, Rampart 2006The all-time digs leader at Rampart has excelled playing volleyball at Northern Colorado. The junior libero (defensive specialist) was named the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week for Oct. 6 for her 36 digs in league wins over Eastern Washington and Portland State.
