MILO BRYANT: You can’t improve perfect beverage
Hey folks, water here again. Milo will be back next week.
I told you last week how much you need me. Some of you heard me, and we’re off to a great renewal of an amazing relationship.
Now, I don’t want to put a damper on things, but I have some impostors out there – liquids saying they’re me, when they’re really not.
In fact, they taste like grapes or mangoes or strawberry banana.
Better yet are the impostors who want you to believe they’re filled with vitamins and everything else you need to be the best football or baseball or basketball player out there.
They even hint that you can be a hip-hop star or a country music great.
I know the impostors taste good. And I know Milo has consumed way more than his fair share.
But even he always comes back to me. You can’t add anything to me to make me better.
In fact, those other fluids, the ones that taste like raspberry lemonade, take more of me to dilute them enough for the body to absorb them.
Cities have their rules and regulations about the amount of stuff that gets into our tap water.
But your bodies and their regulations often don’t mix well.
Folks who use tap water should contact their water department and request a water-quality report.
It also might be called a consumer-confidence report or a right-to-know report. The reports are usually done annually.
If you’re young, elderly, pregnant or have any immune-deficiency issues, you need to have explicit knowledge of what’s going into your body. Get that report.Study it. Talk with your physician about it. Make the appropriate changes in your water intake.
Remember, where you get me is very important, too. Many of the “bottled at the source” bottles of water come from a filtered tap. The filter takes out not just the bad things but the good things, too. And that’s all right!
I know you get most of your minerals from your food, which is the way it should be.
Because of that I’m not worried about you getting me in my purest form – without all the minerals I’m supposed to have.
Think about this: Even if I did have all my minerals, you’d have take in 30 gallons of me a day to get all the minerals the body needs.
As with many things, the more expensive bottled waters are better; Fiji, Evian and Trinity all have reputations with sports nutritionists as quality water sources.
For now, though, take time to learn more about me. Remember, I am the most important substance in your body, and all I want to do is get to know you even better.
