Nominating petitions circulated for Clinton, Obama
DENVER – In a carefully negotiated deal, Democratic convention delegates are beginning to sign petitions that would nominate both Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton for president.The primary rivals agreed that both candidates would be nominated before a roll-call vote Wednesday. Each candidate needs 300 signatures to be eligible, so Obama’s staff began circulating the petitions during the Monday evening session.Under the agreement, Clinton will get some votes at the beginning of the roll call, then cut it off to declare Obama the nominee by acclamation.A petition also is being circulated to nominate Delaware Sen. Joe Biden for vice president.
