Once again, Douglas Bruce doesn’t want your money.

Bruce, seeking the Republican nomination in House District 15, isn’t accepting campaign donations, just as he refused donations when he ran for El Paso County commissioner a few years ago.

“I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with people accepting donations, but I don’t want to create that appearance of dependency,” he said.

Parades and suchHal Bidlack, Democratic candidate in the 5th Congressional District, begins July 4 by attending a 7 a.m. pancake breakfast at the Security fire station. He’ll then participate in the 10 a.m. parade in Monument and from there go to woodland Park.

Bentley Rayburn, a Republican candidate in the 5th, also will attend the Monument parade, and advises those walking in the parade to park at the Foxworth Galbraith parking lot on the northeast side of Baptist Road at exit 158. A free shuttle to the staging area and return ride from the parade is available. Rayburn’s backers should report to the staging area at 0 a.m.

How dare you agree with meFifth Congressional District candidate Jeff Crank, a Republican, lashed out at incumbent Rep. Doug Lamborn’s stance on increasing gas prices.

Lamborn apparently told a newspaper he backs increasing domestic oil production to decrease the nation’s dependency on foreign oil.

Crank thinks the same thing, but said Lamborn isn’t being forceful enough on the issue.

“People are concerned over the price of fuel and other commodities and it is costing them too much money,” Crank said in a press release. “But there is a difference between stating the obvious and actually doing something about it.”

Crank vowed to make the issue “truly a priority, not just a convenient campaign platform.”
