Rep. Mark Udall took a jab at colleague Doug Lamborn during a luncheon today at The Broadmoor.Udall, a Democrat who represents District 2 including northwest Denver and Boulder, is running for the U.S. Senate and has been crisscrossing the state of late. He officially opened his campaign earlier this week in Colorado Springs and has made several appearances here recently.During his speech on today, he said, “This is the third time I’ve been in Colorado Springs in 10 days. I said I was looking for him (Lamborn), and finally I found him.”Lamborn took the comment good naturedly and even ceded a portion of his time at the end of the luncheon so Udall could answer a question about energy policy.Lamborn supports more domestic drilling to increase supply, which he said would drive gas and gasoline prices down.Udall said drilling should be off-limits in environmentally sensitive areas, and the nation should consider relying more heavily on nuclear power.Drop inBentley Rayburn, one of Lamborn’s opponents for the Republican nomination, is having a party for anyone attending the 5th District’s assembly Friday in Broomfield, even though he’s not seeking the nomination at the assembly.Rayburn submitted signatures today to petition onto the ballot, as did Lamborn.Despite that, the retired Air Force officer is hosting a hospitality reception at the Weston Hotel, 10600 Westminster Blvd., in Westminster immediately following the Republican Women’s Dinner.”This is sure to be a fun event and a great opportunity to socialize with Bentley,” a press release said.Jeff Crank is expected to be chosen at the assembly for top-line on the Aug. 12 primary ballot.Send items to pam.zubeck@gazettedev.gazette.com
