BASEBALL

Pikes Peak No. 3 Doherty 11, Mitchell 8

At Doherty: The Spartans (9-2, 7-0 5A Metro) rallied, scoring six runs in the bottom of the sixth. Beau Kelly drove in two of his four RBIs with a double in that inning.

“We really had to come from behind,” Doherty coach David DuBois said. “They had some good pitching and we made a couple of errors in the outfield.”

Brandon DeVries allowed 10 runs on 13 hits in 53 innings for the Marauders (2-7, 1-6).

GIRLS SOCCER

No. 6 Palmer 2, No. 3 Doherty 0

At Garry Berry: The Terrors (3-4-2, 2-1 5A Metro) scored twice in the second half and shut out the Spartans (5-3, 2-2). Kirsten King scored the insurance goal in the final minute.

“It feels really good,” Palmer coach Chris Romano said. “We lost to Rampart the other night, so this was a good conference win for us. We were really nervous.”

Mitchell 2, Coronado 1

At Mitchell: The host Marauders (1-6, 1-3 5A Metro) rallied behind goals from Alexis Hendrickson and Caylee Chittenden during a 4-minute span midway through the second half.

It was the Marauders’ first win over Coronado (2-7, 1-4) in recent memory, Mitchell coach Tom Mourning said.

“The girls played a very good game of soccer today,” Mourning said. “They started putting it all together. Coronado played tough.”

No. 4 Lewis-Palmer 2, Sand Creek 0

At Lewis-Palmer: Cailee Osterman and Justine Milligan scored twice for the Rangers (7-1, 3-0 5A Metro) to beat the Scorpions (4-3, 1-2).

At Cheyenne Mountain: The Indians (5-3-1, 3-0 Southern) held on despite a two-goal rally by the Eagles (6-3, 3-2) in the final 3 minutes.

“For us it was a huge defensive game,” Indians coach Bonnie Goff said. “We have a lot to prove in our league and it was one of those games where they really earned back that respect that they deserve.”
