The Rampart boys performed well all day, winning seven events, including three by Devin Mohn, to score 85 points and beat Doherty and Fountain-Fort Carson for the team title at the 50th annual Pikes Peak Track and Field Invitational on Saturday at Garry Berry Stadium.

    Coronado’s LaTraia Scott won the 100- and 200-meter dashes and Widefield led all area girls with 49 points, finishing in fifth place. Chaparral of Parker won the girls title.

    Rampart started strong, winning two distance events in the morning. Nick Saulnier won the 3,200, and the Rams also won the 3,200 relay in 8 minutes, 11.79 seconds.

    “We have a lot of team depth,” Rams coach Dan Barringer said. “We’re seeing what having two or three guys per event can do to push each other.”

    In the afternoon, Mohn outran everyone, winning the 100 in 11.03, the 200 in 22.42 and running the anchor leg of the winning 400 relay team (42.87).

    Brennan Jarvis overtook ThunderRidge’s Mike Koch in the final 100 meters to win the 1,600 by 0.05 of a second and Corey Clark won the 400 in 50.18 for the Rams.

    Doherty’s Kenny Chambers led the Spartans to second, finishing second in the 100 (11.20) and triple jump (43 feet, 10¾ inches) and as the anchor of the 400 relay team. He placed fifth in the 200 to pile up 29 points. It was bittersweet.

    “I don’t like coming in second place,” Chambers said.

    Scott, running in her first meet since transferring to Coronado from Palmer, won the 100 in 12.20, ahead of Cheyenne Mountain’s Joy O’Hare (12.65), and the 200, finishing in 25.65.

    “It feels good,” Scott said. “I’m so glad to be back running.”
