If you need children’s clothes and missed the recent Just Between Friends and Mini Mania sales, you’re in luck — Colorado Spring’s peace. love. swap. children’s clothing exchange is set for Sunday, April 15.

Run by local Air Force wife and mother of four Sheri Devan, peace. love. swap. gives local parents the chance to clear their children’s closets and stock up on the clothes and toys they’ll for the next few months.

“Being able to swap is awesome because kids grow out of clothes so quickly,” said Devan, whose husband is stationed at the Air Force Academy. “For some of us who don’t have the time to tag everything for Just Between Friends, this is easy. You just bring everything you don’t need any more.”

Admission to the quarterly event is $5 ahead of time (purchase tickets here) and $6 at the door, plus items to donate to the swap.

Doors open for drop-offs at 2 p.m. at Aerials Gymnastics East, 1459 Woolsey Heights.

Devan asks that donated items — children’s clothes through teen sizes, maternity clothes, toys, books, movies and gear — be clean and in good condition, though there’s no need to hang clothes.

Attendees can begin “shopping” once volunteers have finished displaying donations. During the wait vendor booths will be avaliable for browsing, and children can practice their gymastics skills for $2 each.

Parents are each allowed to fill a large shopping bag provided to them. If they’d like more items, they’re asked to empty the bag in their car before resuming browsing.

“The system keeps people in check and gives everyone a chance to get the things that they need,” Devan said.

If parents don’t find what they need, they can ask Devan for a free pass to the next swap.

“So far it’s only happened once,” she said.

Devan has coordinated three swaps since 2011, when she began organizing them. Her first swap was attended by 20 families; the last was attended by 31.

“It’s always hard when we’re tagging along after Just Between Friends, but it doesn’t stop some people because they bring whatever they have left over,” Devan said.

Though swap participants don’t make money off the items they bring, most walk away with everything their children need for the upcoming season.

“You’re not going to make anything from peace. love. swap., but some people are just really happy to get rid of their stuff and go home with stuff they can use,” said Devan, who is also working on organizing a ladies’ clothing swap. “Sometimes they’d rather bless someone else than deal with consigning things.

“Consignment is great, but this is a lot easier.”
