The Armed Forces YMCA hosted an awesome event for military spouses on Thursday, the day before the official Military Spouse Appreciation Day.Click here for some picturesThere were vendors on hand giving out free goodies, hair cuts, massages, and information.I stopped by and got my hair cut at the Paul Mitchell “stand” and I have to say it was quite possibly the best hair cut of my life. I was thrilled that i actually got the trim, layers, and face framing that I was picturing. For those of you trying to grow out your hair and your trim turns in to 2 inches, you know how awesome that is!I also got a chance to chat with a couple really cool military non profits that I didn’t even know existed.One of them was Military Family Voices. They make high quality audio recordings of service members, family members and friends, so that they can lsiten to each other’s voices during a deployment. We all knwo how touchy Skype and some of those phone calls can be so this sounds like a really great FREE service!Then there was Operation Kid Comfort, which is a non profit that makes personalized quilts for children with a deployed parent. You can find them on the YMCA’s website and upload the oictures that you want to be sewen on as well as make color and theme preferences. The quilts are 100% free, but they’re a little behind so you’d have to be patient.It was almost overwhelming the number of businesses that came out today to celebrate and honor military spouses today. Veterans Day and Memorial Day are such big deals for the service member and vet, as they should be, that it’s nice to have a day dedicated to the ones who get left behind while supporting their spouses’ careers.
