Air Force Academy cadets will assist in escorting the president during the 57th presidential inaugural parade on Jan. 21.

The cadets, along with other service members from each branch of the military, will comprise the presidential escort, which is separate from the inaugural parade, according to a press release by the Joint Task Force National Capital Region 57th Presidential Inauguration.

The military has participated in presidential inaugurations since April 30, 1789, when members of the Army, local militia units and Revolutionary War veterans escorted George Washington to his first inauguration ceremony at Federal Hall in New York City.
