An Air Force Academy cadet charged in September in a sexual misconduct case was confined Monday night to the Teller County jail after an allegation surfaced that he broke another military law.

Jamil D. Cooks, a junior, was awaiting an evidence hearing when an academy squadron commander ordered him confined in jail, according a statement by the Air Force Academy.

No details of the latest accusation were released. The Air Force Office of Special Investigations is investigating the alleged incident.

Air Force prosecutors charged Cooks on Sept. 18 with attempted sodomy, aggravated sexual assault and aggravated sexual contact. An evidence hearing determining whether the case goes to court-martial — also known as an Article 32 hearing — is scheduled for Dec. 18.

A Sierra High School graduate, Cooks played a significant role on the academy’s football team before being left off the roster earlier this year, along with four other players. At the time, no reason was given by Air Force Academy football officials for their absence.
