FORT CARSON, Colo. – Fort Carson will celebrate America Recycles Day with a household hazardous waste collection event Nov. 15, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. at the old commissary (building 1525, Wetzel Avenue) parking lot.The free event is open to ID card holders from area military installations, including military service members and their families, Department of Defense civilians, defense contractors and retirees; but a donation of non-perishable food items for Care and Share is encouraged.Participants can drop off unwanted and hazardous household products such as paints, stains, solvents, automotive products, lawn and garden products, and electronics and data media. These products, when improperly stored, create fire and poison hazards for pets, children and the environment and should be disposed of properly.

Fort Carson will also host two free screenings of “Bag It,” a film that focuses on the politics of plastic bags, waste and recycling, Nov. 14 at the Fort Carson Freedom Performing Arts Center, building 1129. Show times for a 45-minute version of the film are 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., while a 60-minute version with an additional chapter on human health will show at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
