Rockies stars to visit Springs

A Fort Carson soldier, Spc. Kyle Robert Rookey, was killed Sunday in Jalalabad, Afghanistan from a non-combat related incident, the Defense Department said Monday.

Rookey, 23, of Oswego, N.Y., was with the 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. He joined the Army on March 3, 2010.

Rookey had been deployed in Afghanistan since March. He operated drones — unmanned aerial vehicles.

He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with a bronze service star among other commendations.
