FORT CARSON, Colo. (AP) — A memorial service is being held for a Fort Carson soldier from Arizona who was killed in Afghanistan.The service is being held Monday for 30-year-old 1st Lt. Alejo Thompson of Yuma, Ariz.

Thompson was killed earlier this month when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire. He was assigned to the 4th Brigade Combat Team, part of the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson.

Thompson deployed to Afghanistan in March. He served in Iraq from March 2003 to February 2004.
