A 29-year-old man was sentenced to three years and one month in prison for assaulting his infant daughter while they lived on Fort Carson.

Ray Sievers will also serve three years of supervised release once he gets out of prison for the assault, which happened while he lived on post with his wife — an active-duty soldier — and her 2-year-old son, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Sievers claimed that he fell down the stairs in March 2008 while holding his daughter, leaving her with serious injuries, the attorney’s office said. Doctors at Memorial Hospital, however, said the infant’s injuries couldn’t have come from such a fall.

Prosecutors alleged that Sievers twice beat the girl in the past — the first time shaking her so hard that her head hit the ground.

Later, he was suspected of shaking the infant, punching the back of her head and dropping her face-first into the side of a bath tub, the attorney’s office said.
