Fort Carson leaders plan to dedicate the post’s Soldier Family Care Center in honor of a combat medic who died trying to help another soldier.

A ceremony will be held Friday to name the center after Pfc. Eric P. Woods, who died July 9, 2005 when a bomb struck his Humvee in Iraq. Woods, 26, of Omaha, Neb., was rushing to rescue another soldier who died while tending a third wounded soldier.

Woods served with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment.

The building bearing his name will feature the Evans Family Medicine clinic, as well as a host of other services including pediatrics and physical therapy, along with a dental clinic, according to Fort Carson.
