Inprocessing All incoming personnel should report to the United States Army Replacement Detachment and Fort Carson Welcome and Farewell Center, Bldg. 1218, located on the corner of Wetzel Avenue and Ellis Street. It is not necessary to report in uniform. The detachment operates 24 hours a day. You will receive an inprocessing appointment after signing in. Allow two to four days to in process, depending on rank. Be sure to have your dental, medical, finance, and personnel records, orders and a DA 31 (leave form). If your finance records are in order, you will normally be paid your travel time entitlements within five days of your first day of inprocessing. DA CIVILIANS Department of the Army civilians should report to Bldg. 1550, Specker Avenue, at 7:30 a.m. on the first day of their employment at Fort Carson.

4ID Commanding General’s Sponsorship Policy
Reporting All incoming military personnel, LTC and below, must report to the U.S. Army Replacement Detachment Center. Temporary Quarters If you are a Staff Sergeant or below, unaccompanied by your family, you will receive temporary billeting at the Replacement Detachment. The Colorado Inn, the post’s temporary lodging facility, is operated on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations may be made up to 60 days in advance. TDY personnel and PCS families will be housed on a priority basis. The Colorado Inn has also contracted with several local, name-brand hotels to provide rooms for overflow personnel. These hotel contracts provide for lower than normal rates for military personnel and families.
Relocation Assistance The Army Community Services (ACS) Family Connection Center is located in Building 1354. The Family Connection offers the following relocation services and activities to assist transitioning families to the Mountain Post: the ACS Loan Closet; the Toy and Book Exchange for families staying in temporary lodging; weekly Carson Cares Spouse Orientation; multiple Internet stations dedicated for use by transitioning families; Welcome Packets, including maps and information on post and community programs/services; community networking opportunities; SHARE Colorado registration; a monthly Homebuyer’s Workshop; Cultural Support Groups; and a host of other important activities and services. Critical Installation Information You may not talk on hand-held cell phones while you are driving on the installation.
Base Transportation Currently, there is no shuttle bus operating on Fort Carson. The Colorado Springs Transit System does operate on post.
Entering Fort Carson Fort Carson is not an open post. If you are entering in your privately-owned vehicle which has not been registered, you must enter through the Main Gate (Gate 1). All incoming soldiers and civilian personnel are required to permanently register their vehicles, including motorcycles. To enter Fort Carson, you must have a valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, proof of insurance and valid photographic identification. To permanently register your vehicle, you will also have to have to pass a Colorado emissions inspection, For more information on vehicle registration, during normal duty hours (0830 -1630 M-F) please call 524-1896. After duty hours, please call the MP desk at 526-2333. Please contact your unit or vehicle registration prior to arrival as policies are subject to change.
Rules of the Road All Colorado state statutes apply to driving on Fort Carson. Additional federal regulations apply, such as mandatory helmets and reflective vests for personnel operating motorcycles on and off post. Military traffic violators are subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice, or the Magistrates Court depending on the offense. All civilian traffic violators are subject to the U.S. Magistrates Court.
Colorado Motor Vehicle Registration Fort Carson requires soldiers and civilians to register their vehicles on post at the Main Gate (Gate 1), Building 6012 ( M-F 0830-1630 hrs). However, military personnel are exempt from the requirement to have Colorado license plates within 30 days of arrival if they have valid plates from their home of record state. To obtain Colorado plates, you must have verification of your vehicles’ identification number, the title or current registration, and proof of a current Colorado emissions test. Take these items and the vehicle to the Motor Vehicle Department, 200 South Cascade in Centennial Hall, Chapel Hills Mall behind JC Penney. Directions
Traveling to Fort CarsonFort Carson is located on the front range of the Rocky Mountains and is 60 miles South of Denver on Interstate 25 at Exit #135. The post is nestled in the extreme Southwest corner of Colorado Springs, beneath and in the shade of Cheyenne Mountain. You can also enter the post from State Highway 115 (Nevada Avenue).
Air Transportation Colorado Springs Airport is currently served by 8 airline carriers and is located about 10 miles from Fort Carson. The Armed Forces YMCA Booth, located near baggage claim area #4, is available for assistance. Military transportation is available 24 hours a day by calling 1-800-279-1151Commercial Bus Transportation The Greyhound bus terminal is located at 120 S. Weber Street. For fare information, call the Greyhound terminal at 719-635-1505.
Taxi Service Civilian taxi service is available from a variety of local companies. Fare for trips from Fort Carson to downtown Colorado springs is approximately $10; to the airport is approximately $15.
Base Access In August 2002, Fort Carson became a ‘closed’ post. In order to gain access to the post, all new arrivals should report to Gate #1 on Highway 115 for a vehicle pass or to register your vehicle on post. Your current driver’s license, proof of insurance, and vehicle registration information/papers will be needed.

The Colorado Springs Airport is located North and East of Fort Carson
Follow the Airport road exit which turns into Drennan Road and follow it heading West until you reach Academy Blvd. Turn left
Academy Blvd will curve back to the right and the front range (mountains) will be directly in front of you
Pass the exit for Fort Carson Gate #4 at B-Street. Continue West towards the front range
Take the State Highway 115 exit South towards Canon City
Pass the Fort Carson Gate #2 exit. After approximately two miles, Fort Carson Gate #1 will be on the left
