What in the World Is Going On? | Guest column

By Andrew Wommack

After the third assassination attempt on President Trump in under two years, many agree that something must change, but there’s no consensus on the root problem.

Blame is widespread, and accountability is rare. Something systemic has shifted in our society. A Gallup poll shows that younger adults are far more likely than older generations to justify political violence.

This trend lines up with recent acts of violence and growing hostility toward police officers and immigration authorities, pointing to a broader societal shift that extends beyond gun use. Guns don’t kill people any more than forks make people fat. It’s what’s in people’s hearts.

America’s Founders and early leaders long warned that liberty depends on moral self-restraint. John Adams said the Constitution was “made only for a moral and religious people,” and Robert Winthrop argued that society is governed either “by the Bible or by the bayonet.” In more recent years, Clayton Christensen echoed this same principle, emphasizing that democracy and order rely on voluntary moral restraint rather than enforcement alone.

Knowledge of biblical truth helps restrain sin. Without it, the sinful nature of man is unbridled. Evil would be far less common if biblical truths were universally upheld. Yet over time, ungodly leaders have removed prayer and Bible reading from schools and replaced them with drag queens and pornography. They’ve passed laws that are shaping entire generations without a belief in absolute truth.

The only solution is a return to God’s Word and the truths it presents. The reason Satan’s lies have gained a stronghold is because God’s truth—the Bible—has been pushed aside. In the absence of biblical truth, lies proliferate.

Not long ago, even non-Christians believed there was a God, a devil, heaven, hell, and final judgment. Today, acts of extreme violence followed by suicide reflect the false belief that punishment ends here. That belief is a lie—those responsible will face an eternity in hell.

A case in point is the 1999 Columbine High School massacre, where two teens killed 13 people before killing themselves. In the aftermath, gun bans were pushed, yet earlier generations often carried guns to school without this kind of violence.

It’s a complex issue, but the deeper problem is the loss of moral restraint.

Still, there is reason for hope. Bible sales are up, and church attendance is increasing, with young men leading the way. While these are encouraging signs, we still have a long way to go. Our nation’s leaders need to uphold the biblical morality that has served our nation well for 250 years.

I believe the Third Great Awakening has already begun. If each of us stands for truth in our sphere of influence, we can impact the nation. I pray you will join me in standing for biblical truth—the only lasting solution to the root cause of the evil trying to destroy this nation.

As a southern Colorado town evolves, a historic hotel is reborn

Eight years ago, Stan Bullis stood here looking at the natural beauty: the mountains sought by hikers and bikers and rock climbers, the Royal Gorge and Arkansas River sought by boaters and anglers. And he stood here looking at dark, vacant buildings up and down Main Street. “It was sort of mystifying,” Bullis recalled. It […]
