Unearth an adventure with PPLD this summer | Library Limelight

Looking for a fun way to keep kids reading, moving and learning this summer? Pikes Peak Library District’s Summer Adventure reading program, presented by Friends of the Pikes Peak Library District, gives families a no-cost way to read, create, explore and make the most of summer together.

Summer Adventure is designed for all ages, from babies to adults. Through July 31, participants complete 30 days of activities by reading, exploring or creating. That can mean reading a book, listening to an audiobook, attending a Library program, making something, trying a new activity or using one of PPLD’s activity ideas.

The program is flexible, which is especially helpful for busy families. Reading can happen independently, out loud, together as a family or through audiobooks. Activities go beyond books, encouraging kids to stay curious, creative and active all summer long.

At PPLD, we know parents are their children’s first and most important teachers. Summer Adventure supports families by keeping kids engaged while school is out, building strong reading habits, and avoiding the “summer slide,” when students can lose some of the academic progress they made during the school year.

Families can also enjoy no-cost programs throughout June and July, including family concerts, Winnie the Pooh performances, dinosaur-themed activities, wildlife programs, hands-on Idea Lab activities, Storytimes and more. It is an easy way to explore new interests, visit library locations across El Paso County and discover resources available to the whole family.

Participants can register online through Beanstack or register in person at a library. Prizes can be picked up at your local library.

Children and teens up to 18 receive a choice of books, journals or other prizes when they sign up. After completing 30 days of activities, participants earn another prize and enter into the grand prize drawing. Ages 0-3 receive a bath toy, ages 4-12 receive a reading brag tag, ages 13-18 can choose a book or journal, and adults receive a booklight or clip light.

Participants can also keep going after they complete 30 days of reading and activities. Bonus rounds give readers and explorers the chance to earn up to four additional entries into the grand prize drawings.

This year’s grand prizes include a Pikes Peak Region Attractions VIP Access Pass, offering free and significantly discounted admission to attractions in the Pikes Peak region and a one-night stay for two at The Broadmoor Cloud Camp. Other prize drawings include family-friendly experiences, memberships, passes and gift cards from local attractions and businesses.

Summer Adventure is offered at no cost, making it easier for families to access books, programs, activities, and learning resources throughout the summer. Whether your child loves stories, science, music, animals, crafts or outdoor adventures, there is something to discover at the library.
