Snow totals

Woodland Park got 4.4 inches of snow during the May 5-6 snowstorm, according to the National Weather Service reporting system.

Following last week’s snow, statewide snowpack has officially escaped record-low territory, though it’s still at just 25 percent of the norm for the date. Snow is expected to be gone from Colorado’s highest peaks in a matter of weeks, significantly ahead of schedule.

Estes Park led the state with 33.9 inches.

Sheriff’s open house

The Teller County Sheriff’s Office will have its annual open house on June 6 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Fire mitigation

NoFloCo Fire Mitigation Posse partnered with the Woodland Park School District for a public wildfire mitigation and forest health workday on May 9. Volunteers worked at both Woodland Park High School and Columbine Elementary School to reduce fuel loads, improve forest resilience and help protect school properties.

The project included forest floor debris removal, forest thinning, fuel elimination, firewood production, mowing, slash disposal, and other hands-on forest health activities.

Pancake breakfast

The 2026 Mountain Communities Volunteer Fire Department Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast will be held on May 25 from 7:30-11:30 a.m. at 15000 Westcreek Drive in Woodland Park.

“Enjoy the best breakfast in Westcreek, meet Smokey Bear, check out Flight for Life, and enter to win door prizes from local vendors,” MCVFD said in a release. “Your tax-deductible donations are greatly appreciated and help our local fire department. Donations will help with our station expansion.”

Slash site

The Divide slash site is now open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. through Sept. 26.

The location is just east of the intersection of Highways 24 & 67 in Divide. Take Hybrook Road South. The site is on the left past the post office.

There is a fee of $20 per load, which is considered equivalent to a full pickup bed. Mulch is free when available.

No stumps, roots, lumber, railroad ties, dirt or household trash. Also, no metals, weeds, grasses, bags of pinecones, bark or pine needles.

Colorado worst for auto thefts

A new study reveals that Colorado is the top state for vehicle thefts in the US.

The study, conducted by car comparison website Save Max Auto, summed all vehicle thefts registered between 2021 and 2025 from the FBI Crime Data Explorer for each US state and compared them to each state’s population (from US Census Bureau, Population Estimates Program (PEP) to find out where there have been the most thefts per 100,000 residents.

Colorado ranks first, with 2,852 vehicle thefts per 100,000 residents. This figure is based on a total of 167,648 thefts recorded between 2021 and 2025, compared to a population of 5,877,610. The average victim age in the state is 41.7. Data also shows that the most common location for theft is a garage or parking lot, where 36% of these incidents occurred (60,491).
