Beacon Lite project
Northbound Beacon Lite Road is now closed between Wakonda Way and Bricker Road as part of an ongoing project to upgrade Beacon Lite Road from gravel to asphalt, and improve curves, grades and drainage. Northbound drivers are advised to detour via Wakonda Way, Aries Drive, Indi Drive and Palmer Divide Road during this closure.
Not date for completion has been announced.
Traffic fatality
Colorado State Patrol said a driver died in a single-car rollover crash along Interstate 25 near the Air Force Academy early on May 1. Trooper Hunter Mathews said a call came in around 6:15 a.m. about a yellow Chevrolet sedan driving southbound on the exit 156 on-ramp, which leads into the north entrance of the Air Force Academy. When troopers arrived, they found the crash and the driver, who was pronounced dead on scene.
Birthday bash
Celebrate Monument’s 147th birthday at the Monumental Birthday Bash at Limbach Park on June 4.
“This free, family-friendly community event will feature an exciting lineup of live music, headlined by local favorites WireWood Station, with support from slide guitarist Joey Fletcher and The Joey Fletcher Band from Murfreesboro, Tennessee,” the event’s Facebook page says.
Valuation objections
The county assessor began hearing objections to real property classifications and valuations on May 1, per Colorado law. Objections to the valuation or classification of real property must be postmarked, delivered or presented in person to the county assessor’s office no later than June 8.
