Pekron to swim at Nebraska-Kearney

Kensley Pekron, a 2026 graduate of Merit Academy, has committed to continue her athletic and academic career at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, where she will compete on the varsity swim team as a distance and mid-distance swimmer.

Pekron has been a member of Peak Swim Team, Teller County’s local USA Club swim team, for several years. She has also competed as a member of the Woodland Park High School swim team for the past four years. She qualified for the state meet each year, including back-to-back top-10 finishes. Pekron earned all-state academic honors and received honorable mention all-state recognition in Colorado high school swimming.

Pekron holds multiple individual and team-relay records for WPHS, leaving a lasting legacy on the school’s swimming program.

At the University of Nebraska-Kearney, Pekron plans to major in Biology or Applied Health Sciences. She ultimately aspires to become a physician’s assistant, blending her passion for science and service with the discipline and resilience she has developed through years of competitive swimming.

“Kensley’s work ethic, talent, and character have made her a true leader in our swimming community,” said Rusty Bernstein, WPHS and Peak Swim Team’s head coach. “We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and excited to see her continue her journey at the collegiate level.”
