Area libraries offer spring, summer events
Pikes Peak Library District will hold several events designed to inspire residents to explore their local library during the 68th annual National Library Week, April 20-24.
NLW promotes literacy, and celebrates the role of libraries, librarians and employees. The events show that libraries provide free access to today’s technology, educational programs and resources, promote lifelong learning and strengthen community connection.
This year’s theme, “Find Your Joy,” focuses on the joy of discovering books, programs and community at local libraries. An Open House will be held from 3-5 p.m., April 24 at Palmer Lake Library, 66 Lower Glenway, Palmer Lake. A scavenger hunt, live music, face painting and activities highlight the event. Call 719-531-6333 extension 7007 or visit ppld.org/co150-usa250.
Face-painting, music and a town scavenger hunt with a chance to win a $75 gift card to Calvert’s Market in Palmer Lake will be available.
Singer-songwriter Steve Weeks will perform his diverse musical styles ranging from Reggae and bluegrass to folk-hop from 6-7 p.m., July 10 at Palmer Lake Library. The musician is known for his richly layered acoustic songs, and experimentation with unusual percussion that include cans, tinker toys, and pots and pans.
“We’re supposed to be entertaining and educating kids. If it’s not coming from the heart or isn’t fun, I won’t write it,” the musician said in a Steve Weeks Music post.
In an April 1 press release, Melody Alvarez, PPLD director of programming said, “We want families to be able to join in one of the concerts that fits into their schedule. We decided to create opportunities during the summer so more families can join us.” Visit //ppld.org/summer.
